Resumen

Objetivo principal: Identificar la percepción del equipo de enfermería en el manejo y cuidados de pacientes con delirium. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo transversal. Se midieron los sentimientos a través de un cuestionario de elaboración propia validado por expertos. Se realizó un análisis descriptivo de la muestra y de las variables dependientes en función de categoría profesional, unidad de trabajo y años de experiencia y un análisis bivariante no paramétrico. Resultados principales: Los sentimientos que frecuentemente identifica el personal de enfermería durante la atención a pacientes con delirium son: frustración y sobrecarga; sintiendo ocasionalmente: crispación, desamparo, ansiedad, inseguridad y verse sin recursos. Las TMSCAEs refirieron haber sentido con mayor frecuencia que las enfermeras: frustración, crispación, desamparo, ansiedad e inseguridad. Conclusión principal: El personal de enfermería experimenta actitudes negativas en la atención de los pacientes con delirium, es importante explorar estas emociones para establecer estrategias específicas para mejorar el aprendizaje y la experiencia en el cuidado.

Abstract

Objective: To identify the perception of the nursing team in the management and care of patients with delirium. Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study. Feelings were measured with a self-developed questionnaire validated by experts. A descriptive analysis of the sample and of the dependent variables according to professional category, work unit and years of experience was realized, and a nonparametric bivariate analysis were performed. Results: The feelings frequently identified by the nursing staff during the care of patients with delirium are: frustration and work overload, and they also feel occasionally: nervousness, helplessness, anxiety, insecurity and lack of resources. The TMSCAEs reported more frequent feelings of frustration, tension, helplessness, anxiety and insecurity than the nurses. Conclusions: It is necessary to provide support to the nursing team to enhance their competencies for the care of the elderly patient with delirium and to improve the perception of their experience of care. This support could take the form of educational intervention, protocols, interdisciplinary approach and involvement of family/caregivers.
