Resumen

Introducción: La diabetes mellitus tipo 2 es frecuente en pacientes mayores, quienes se encuentran con barreras cognitivas, físicas y sociales que dificultan el seguimiento del tratamiento. El personal de enfermería desempeña un papel importante al abordar estos factores y mejorar la adherencia, favoreciendo mejores resultados clínicos. Objetivo: Analizar las estrategias de enfermería que facilitan la adherencia al tratamiento en personas ancianas con diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Materiales y métodos: Se ha realizado una revisión sistemática de la literatura publicada entre enero y mayo de 2024 en bases de datos como PubMed y Scielo, seleccionando estudios que describen intervenciones educativas, apoyo emocional y seguimiento continuo por parte de enfermeros. Resultados: Los estudios muestran que la educación sanitaria proporcionada por el personal de enfermería, junto con el fortalecimiento de redes de apoyo social, contribuye significativamente a la mejora de la adherencia al tratamiento y al control glucémico de los pacientes. Conclusión: Diseñar intervenciones de enfermería basadas en la educación continua y adaptadas a las necesidades de los pacientes mayores resulta fundamental para promover su autonomía, reducir la dependencia y prevenir complicaciones asociadas a la diabetes mellitus tipo 2

Abstract

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is common in elderly patients, who face cognitive, physical and social barriers that hinder treatment adherence. Nursing staff play an important role in addressing these factors and improving adherence, leading to better clinical outcomes. Objective: Analyze the nursing strategies that facilitate treatment adherence in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and methods: A systematic review of the literature published between January and May 2024 was conducted in databases such as PubMed and Scielo, selecting studies that describe educational interventions, emotional support, and continuous follow-up provided by nurses. Results: The studies show that health education provided by nursing staff, along with the strengthening of social support networks, significantly contributes to improving treatment adherence and glycemic control in patients. Conclusion: Designing nursing interventions based on continuous education and adapted to the needs of elderly patients is essential to promote autonomy, reduce dependence, and prevent complications associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus
