Inteligencia emocional, consumo de alcohol y salud mental en personas adultas mayores de Chihuahua (México)

Resumen

Objetivo principal: identificar la relación entre la inteligencia emocional, el consumo de alcohol y salud mental en personas adultas mayores. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo correlacional en 125 participantes de Chihuahua, Chihuahua, México. Se aplicó una Cédula de Datos Personales, la Escala de Meta-Estado de Ánimo, el Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test-Versión Geriatric (MASTG) y la Escala de Salud Mental Positiva. Resultados principales: El 68% de los participan-tes perteneció al sexo femenino, se observó una relación positiva y significativa entre la inteligencia emocional y el consumo de alcohol (r = .17, p = .05) y una relación negativa y significativa entre la inteligencia emocional y la salud mental (r =-.19, p = .05). Conclusión principal: La inteligencia emocional puede ser un factor que impacte en el bienestar del individuo; sin embargo, es necesario investigar qué factores le permiten en conjunto evitar o reducir el consumo de alcohol y alcanzar o mantener la salud mental.

Abstract

Objective: identify the relationship between emotional intelligence, alcohol consumption and mental health in elderly persons. Methods: A Personal Data Record, the Meta-Mood Scale, the Michigan Alcoholism Screening Test-Geriatric Version (MASTG) and the Positive Mental Health Scale were applied. Results: 68% of the participants were female, a positive and significant relationship was observed between emotional intelligence and alcohol consumption (r = .17, p = .05) and a negative and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and mental health (r= -.19, p = .05). Conclusions: Emotional intelligence can be a factor that impacts the well-being of the individual; However, it is necessary to investigate what factors together allow you to avoid or reduce alcohol consumption and achieve or maintain mental health.
