¿Es posible modificar el estigma hacia la salud mental en adolescentes? Efectividad de un programa de salud en institutos

Resumen

Introducción: Los trastornos mentales afectan a la salud mental del individuo, son muy frecuentes y causan una alta discapacidad, a menudo están relacionados con los términos estigma, estereotipo o prejuicio. Las personas con una enfermedad mental tienen que enfrentarse diariamente al estigma asociado a su patología. El presente estudio pone de relevancia para la enfermería la importante labor que pueden llegar a desempeñar las enfermeras especialistas en salud mental al fomentar la educación en salud mental desde la adolescencia. Objetivo: Evaluar la efectividad de la educación sanitaria grupal en la población adolescente de 3º de ESO y 2º de Bachillerato del colegio Salesianos y el instituto IES Llombai de Burriana, en la modificación de conductas estigmatizantes hacia la salud mental. Metodología: Un estudio cuasi experimental, sin grupo control, donde el diseño que se ha utilizado es pretest-postest, en el que se ha medido el nivel de estigma a través de la escala CAMI (Cuestionario de actitudes de la comunidad hacia las personas con enfermedad mental). Resultados: Existen diferencias entre las cuatro subescalas de la escala CAMI tras la intervención, sobre todo en autoritarismo y benevolencia. Se han observado diferencias entre las distintas variables siendo la más significativa el sexo. De forma menos representativa también encontramos diferencias en la edad. No se observa una diferenciación clara entre colegio público y privado. Conclusión: La educación para la salud, especialmente en población adolescente, pueden influir de manera positiva en las actitudes frente al estigma de la salud mental. Se debe seguir estudiando e invirtiendo más tiempo y recursos en futuras investigaciones

Abstract

Introduction: Mental disorders affect the mental health of the individual, are very frequent and cause high disability, they are often related to the terms stigma, stereotype or prejudice. People with a mental illness have to face the stigma associated with their pathology daily. This study highlights for nursing the important work that mental health nurses can carry out by promoting mental health education from adolescence. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of group health education in the adolescent population of the 3rd year of ESO and the 2nd year of Baccalaureate of the Salesianos school and the IES Llombai institute in Burriana, in modifying stigmatizing behaviors towards mental health. Methodology: A quasi-experimental study, without a control group, where the design that was used is pretest-posttest, in which the level of stigma was measured through the CAMI scale (Questionnaire of community attitudes towards people with Mental illness). Results: There are differences between the four subscales of the CAMI scale after the intervention, especially in authoritarianism and benevolence. Differences between the different variables have been observed, the most significant being sex. In a less representative way, we also found differences in age. There is no clear distinction between public and private schools. Conclusion: Health education, especially in the adolescent population, can positively influence attitudes towards the stigma of mental health. More time and resources should be studied and invested in future research
