Resumen

La figura de Florence Nightingale sigue siendo un referente actual para la Enfermería a pesar de haber transcurrido más de cien años de su fallecimiento. A través de la revisión de la literatura histórica sobre su figura, se ha examinado su perfil personal, las circunstancias que dieron lugar al giro esencial para la profesión y para los modelos actuales de la Enfermera. Así, tras el análisis detallado de sus acciones en la Guerra de Crimea, la implementación de la Estadística práctica, la creación de la Escuela de Enfermeras y su ingente producción en textos y notas escritas, ha podido evidenciarse el resultado de su modelo no solo para la Enfermería, si no también, para la mejora de la salud pública de su época. Además, se ha podido evidenciar que las cuestiones en términos docentes, éticos, asistenciales o de evidencia científica ya iniciadas por Nightingale guardan una estrecha relación con los conocimientos de la Enfermera actual. Por lo tanto, puede decirse que existen extensas fuentes testimoniales como para que se haya convertido en un icono atemporal para la profesión que actualmente sigue teniendo vigencia

Abstract

The figure of Florence Nightingale remains a current reference for Nursing despite having passed more than one hundred years of his death. Through the review of the historical literature on his figure, his personal profile has been examined, the circumstances that gave rise to the essential turn for the profession and for the current models of the Nurse. Thus, after the detailed analysis of his actions in the Crimean War, the implementation of the practical Statistics, the creation of the School of Nurses and his enormous production in the texts and the written notes, we have been able to show the result of his model not only for Nursing, if not also, for the improvement of public health of its time. In addition, the issues can be evidenced in terms of teaching, ethics, assistance or scientific evidence, as well as the basis of Nightingale, a close relationship with the knowledge of the current Nurse. Therefore, it can be said that there are extensive testimonial sources that have become a temporary icon for the profession that is still valid today
