Resumen

Actualmente, la medicina basada en la evidencia (MBE) es considerada uno de los pilares fundamentales que debe guiar la atención sanitaria en todas sus vertientes, en base a resultados de estudios de investigación clínica realizados con una metodología rigurosa y explicita que permita minimizar los sesgos. La opinión o las preferencias de los pacientes son también fuente de evidencia, pero hasta el momento, el proceso de integración de forma conjunta con otras fuentes de evidencia ha sido poco satisfactorio. La incorporación de tales preferencias en la toma de decisiones permite proteger los derechos de los pacientes y mejorar los resultados en salud. Por tanto, para garantizar la seguridad del paciente y proporcionar unos cuidados de calidad contrastada, se requiere unificar una práctica asistencial basada en la evidencia, junto con un modelo clínico más participativo y con un estilo deliberativo de toma de decisiones compartidas.

Abstract

Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is considered one of the fundamental and primordial pillar that should guide health care, based on the results of research studies carried out with a rigorous and explicit methodology that minimizes biases. The preferences are also a source of evidence, but the integration process with other sources of evidence has been unsatisfactory The incorporation of patient preferences within the MBE allows to protect the rights of patients and improving health outcomes, under the umbrella of the shared decision model. Therefore, the way of providing healthcare today requires combining an evidence-based practice with a clinical model with patient participation and a deliberative style of shared decision-making.
